Just thought I'd mention that we're moving next week. Surprise!
We are leaving New York for the Sacramento area of California.
It's no secret that I've been wanting to leave New York for a while, but now my husband will be changing jobs and that is our ticket out of this big, crazy city.
Remember that Sunscreen "song" Baz Luhrmann created from a Class of '99 speech?
There's one link in that long chain of advice that says, "Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard. Live in Northern California, but leave before it makes you soft" and I keep thinking, "too late." Not that I'm a bitter old lady now, but it has changed me a bit- probably because the stress level is so high.
New York has given us some great opportunities for life experiences, but the day-to-day reality of having a big family in New York City (and five is a really big family here) has really worn us out. I am ready to go to Northern Cali to get nice and soft. Squishy even (I don't really know what that means).
So wish me luck that all this packing and moving across the country and starting a new job will go off without a hitch!

Good luck, you guys! I feel bad that we didn't take advantage of the proximity and hang out with you guys more.
All of that talk of getting soft, and the simple life certainly does sounds appealing. In a way, I'm kind of envious.
I spent age 12-20 in Sacramento and liked it very much. I hope you enjoy it and your kids have good memories made there.
